Horseball In Australia
Horseball was introduced to Australia in 2009 following the sport’s popularity throughout Europe.
The action packed sport involves two teams of four players vying for possession of a leather-bound ball.
The attacking team must make a minimum of three passes between their team members before shooting the ball through a hoop-shaped vertical goal.
The defensive team can protect their goal by pushing opponents out of the playing area using their horse's weight or have the possibility to get alongside the players and pull the ball from their hands.
Horseball is a great team sport requiring a high degree of horsemanship and dexterity played over two 10 minute halves.
It's often referred to as a cross between basketball and rugby or even quidditch - just on horseback!

World Cup News

Its official! The World Cup is going ahead and our Under 16s are prepped and ready to go! We would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the planning, promotion and sponsorship for this amazing opportunity. Our members, their friends and families have put in many hours fundraising and coming up with creative ways to support the world cup team and trip.

The Horseball World Cup will be taking place in Saint-Lô, France from the 15th to the 20th of August. Head over to our facebook page for all the latest news and updates.
2021
Nebo Camp
​
70 riders from throughout Queensland came together at Nebo Indoor Arena, aged from 4 to 17. Linda Gray coached the children alongside her assistants, Lachlan Gray and Brooke Mizzi. A demonstration game was played in the evening with 8 of Queensland’s horseball riders in front of more than 200 people! Recognitions to those riders: Lachlan Gray, Brooke Mizzi, Molly Hird, Chloe Coutts, Hannah Rugless, Taya Lane, Katie Maund and Mila Parkinson.
At only 8 years old, Mila was able to demonstrate correct pick up from both sides of her pony Max, this pair were super cute!
Well we now enter 2021 hoping for a better year!

2020 bought us plenty of challenges. The World Cup Team trained hard and were ready to represent Australia on the world stage in France but unfortunately Covid was worse than anyone expected and international borders were shut.
​
Not long after we had our own border closures which prevented us from playing interstate. We made do and continued to train.
2021 is going to be big and better and our committee is working together to brainstorm ideas and get back a little normality!

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of the Australian Horseball Associations President,
John Willcox.
​
He was determined to push Australian Horseball to new heights.
World Cup was going to happen eventually and his dream was to see the Australian team make a grand entrance onto the world stage with black viking style war paint, he couldn't wait!
​
He put in a lot of effort to make changes that would benefit the teams and the players. For everything he has done we will be forever grateful. He will be sorely missed by the committee and his team.
​
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

The Preliminary World Cup teams have been announced!
Congratulations to the following players who are heading to Saint Lo France to play in the World Cup!

2019
2019 Kicked off with a bang.
With part 2 of the NSW & QLD Junior Interstate exchange happening in Proserpine QLD. It was warm and wet, but the spirits of the juniors could not be dampened. The Queenslanders started strong winning the first two games, and NSW finished strong taking the last two games and winning the series on a goal count back.
Our first Championship for the year was held at Armidale Show with Hygain sponsorship, a great weekend was had by all. The Young Farm came out as 1st placed team.
We are thrilled to have been invited to play at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, On April 21 where the up and coming stars of QLD took on NSW a rilvary that provided 2 great games.
NSW came out on top winning both games.

July we visited Queensland State Equestrian Centre, hosting the first championships on the Sunshine coast.
​
2019 is also the year that selections take place for the 2020 World Cup. Pro-Elite, Ladies Under 21's and Junior Teams will be announced at nationals in November.
